Peregrine Farm Stall: Redesigning the Padkos Experience with Rocketfuel
The bustling Peregrine Farm Stall in Elgin, a favourite stop for travellers, faced growing challenges with vehicle and shopper traffic jams that were causing customers to pass by instead of stopping. Founder Justin Burls approached Rocketfuel to create a solution that would transform congestion into a streamlined, enjoyable shopping experience.
The Challenge
Traffic and bottlenecks in both the parking area and store were hindering Peregrine’s growth. Justin needed a solution that would scale the business while enhancing the brand’s values and creating a more welcoming stop for travellers and families.
Rocketfuel’s Approach The Rocketfuel team conducted a study of shopper behaviour to identify problem areas and designed a new layout to address these traffic flow issues. The solution? A “shipping container village” that integrated open pathways and clever spatial design, connecting indoor and outdoor spaces for a unique, family-friendly experience.
Design Enhancements
Functionality: The shipping container layout improved traffic flow, reducing bottlenecks and guiding shoppers through curated product ranges. “The Padkos Express,” a quick-serve coffee and pie station, provides a fast and easy refuel option for travellers.
User-Centered Design: The new layout invites parents to relax with local treats and pop-up shops, while children can enjoy an outdoor play area. This transformed Peregrine into a welcoming stop for the whole family.
Materials & Manufacturing: Shipping containers were creatively repurposed to build a visually cohesive “village,” offering flexible, modular spaces for local artisans and enhancing Peregrine’s artisanal brand appeal.
Innovation: The container village concept fosters a symbiotic relationship between Peregrine, Elgin Valley holidaymakers, and local entrepreneurs, enriching the traveller experience and supporting community trade.
Results The container village has revitalised Peregrine’s business model, enabling the farm stall to serve more customers while giving local artisans a space to showcase their products. This innovative expansion led to a significant increase in sales, particularly in pies, prompting the launch of a larger bakery to meet demand. As a result, Peregrine Farm Stall is poised to expand into more destination stops with a proven, community-driven model.
The collaboration with Rocketfuel has not only strengthened Peregrine’s brand positioning but also set the stage for continued growth and deeper community connections—an inspiring example of human-centred design at work.
