Circumfort

Bush circumcision healing

When South African entrepreneur Musa Morgan learnt that sticky tape is used by millions of young men to heal from bush circumcision rituals, and Infection related to the environment and post procedure treatment, leads to medical complications he had an idea. The Circumfort kit, helps boys heal after bush circumcision. Infection related to the environment and post procedure treatment, leads to medical complications for many of these young boys. The Innovation Hub partnered with Rocketfuel to solve these issues.

Using CX & UX design disciplines our team had to start by understanding the medical procedure as well as the cultural aspect of this tradition. We wanted to know what these young men have to deal with inside of these circumcision rituals, to work out how we could reduce their struggle and discomfort. The goal was to change the recovery from a tense and worrying one, to one that makes them feel considered and protected by their community.
Rocketfuel spent time speaking to rural manufacturers to understand their limitations. The product designers integrated smart hygiene control materials using simple but effective design cuts, to make this innovation affordable, simple to manufacture, and faster for Musa to scale. An adjustable velcro secured padded strap provides comfort while holding the affected area in a comfortable position discreetly for day to day use during the healing process. The packaging variants serve to organize the kit use better, and also to upscale the kit for higher LSM users.
